You might think a goal has to be really big, like setting a goal to become a brain surgeon or a high-powered lawyer. Goals can be small too, and small goals are as helpful as big ones when it comes to doing well at school. If you have a lot of homework, you can set little goals to help you along the way. You might say, "I'll write three paragraphs in the next 1/2 hour as a first step to completing this essay." That's just one example. The trick is to set a goal that you can reach. Each time you meet a goal, you've achieved a small success. Many small successes result in much larger ones.
