Palace of Versailles
A chateau in the Paris suburb of Versailles, this palace was ordered to be built in 1624 by Louis XIII, King of France. In 1682, Versailles became the official residence of the French monarchy. Renowned for beautiful, ornate architecture and gardens and as a symbol of the French absolute monarchy, Versailles stands today for visitors around the world to walk through and witness its glory.
