Open since 1889, the San Francisco Zoo houses 250 different animal species, and progress is underway to transform the notable zoo into the New Zoo, or a conservation zoo. Click on the Animals and Exhibits section to search for an animal at the zoo, then click on the featured animal to view interesting facts, read about its physical characteristics, habitat and diet, social behavior, status in the wild and more. You can also check out the different collections, like the Insect Zoo or Penguin Island, and see what cool activities you can do at the zoo. The site provides online games and electronic postcards too.
If you're still interested in finding out more about animals, the Animal Planet Web site has a ton of fun links like Animal Guides and Tools and the Dog Breed Directory. There's also an entire Fun and Games domain, with quizzes, puzzles and other interactive activities. You can even take a look at the Live Cams to watch 24-hour coverage of pandas and horses.
The kids' section of the National Geographic website is also a great resource. Not only can you read up on the most recent animal-related news, but you can also search for a specific animal, watch videos and read fun facts.
