How can I prepare for my school's spelling bee?
What better place to practice than with the national spelling bee? The Scripps National Spelling Bee offers study resources, which can help you hone your spelling skills. Read Carolyn's Corner weekly column or browse Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Prefixes, Suffixes and Combining Forms. Most importantly, check out the Consolidated Word List, a collection of more than 100 Scripps word lists dating back to 1950. You can download it in three different sections.
For the younger learners, try Funbrain.com, where you can play Spell Check. The computer gives you 20 sets of four words, and you have to choose the word that is misspelled, and then spell it correctly. If you are just starting out, try the Easy version. For the more ambitious, choose Hard.
